    Indigenous Wiisdom

This class is designed to establish a connection between the contemplative spiritual path and creation through the lens of indigenous knowledge and wisdom. The term “Indigenous Wisdom” will be explored along with references made by notables Abbott Joseph Boyle, Thomas Keating, Ilia Delio, Richard Rohr and others. Indigenous Wisdom includes a connection to geography, landscape and natural systems as interpreted by the culture living within that system.

The class will incorporate audio/visual material from Joseph Campbell’s, “The Power of Myth”, and a National Park Service documentary on the transitory nature of a coastal ecosystem, published material from Native American writers, and storytelling to illustrate ways in which the natural world instructs us. In week four of the class, the focus will be on creation stories and allow us the opportunity to discuss how such stories might impact our individual worldview.

A second series of classes on this topic will be offered in the winter session that will seek to open dialogue on stewardship and care of mother earth.
