John Phillip Newall

'Thou: Seeking The Sacred At The Heart Of One Another'

Using the insights of the great Jewish teacher Martin Buber, John Philip Newell will present a spirituality of relationship based on the practice of seeking the sacred at the heart of all things, including the sacredness within those who seem most different from us.

John Philip Newell, author of 'Listening for the Heartbeat of God: A Celtic Spirituality', is one of the most prominent Christian teachers of spirituality in the Western world. Formerly Warden of Iona Abbey in the Western Isles of Scotland, he now divides his time between Edinburgh, where he does most of his writing, and travelling and teaching internationally. In 2015 he became the Distinguished Visiting Scholar of Spirituality at Iliff School of Theology in Denver where he offers a course every Spring. And in 2016 he founded the School of Celtic Consciousness to deepen the vision and practice of Celtic Spirituality as a sacred resource for healing in the world today. "Another Name For Everything: The Universal Christ"

Most Christians think that Christ is Jesus’ last name.  We extracted Christ from the Trinity and tried to make Jesus stand alone and apart as God.  This made us into a competitive religion instead of a universal religion.  If we do not rebuild Christianity on a Trinitarian foundation, we will continue to lose much of the dynamism, universal meaning, and creation based character of the Christian revelation.

Come hear the Scriptural, Patristic, and very traditional basis for our orthodox belief in a Cosmic notion of Christ, as Fr. Richard Rohr gives us a summary of his upcoming book on this lost but central doctrine.  You will be proud and happy to be a Christian!

Richard Rohr, O.F.M. is a Franciscan friar ordained to the priesthood in the Roman Catholic Church in 1970. He is a globally recognized Catholic and ecumenical Christian teacher focusing on mystical and transformational traditions and is the founder and director of the Center for Action and Contemplation in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He is also the author of more than twenty books.
