    Guard of the Heart

“One practice to bring the effects of contemplative prayer into daily life is traditionally known as “Guard of the Heart.” This consists of letting go of every emotional disturbance as it arises and before we start thinking about it.” (Fr. Thomas Keating, 2017) This class will teach the practice of “Guard of the Heart” and how it compliments our Centering Prayer, and the practices of the Welcoming Prayer and the Active Prayer Phrase. Join us on Saturday, September 29 Read More

    Tuning Into The Mundane

Ignatius of Loyola suggests that God's presence comes like drops of water on a sponge, not like water crashing on rocks. This workshop will explore Ignatian perspectives on discernment and the contemplative practices that can attune our hearts to subtle invitations of Love in the mundane, routine, and seemingly commonplace of everyday life. MOVIE NIGHT: THE SHACK

The Shack

       Movie Projector1png

The Shack is a 2017 American psychological drama film directed by Stuart Hazeldine and written by John Fusco, based on the 2007 novel of the same name by William P. Young. The film stars Sam Worthington, Octavia Spencer, Graham Greene, Radha Mitchell, Alice Braga and Tim McGraw.

Mackenzie ("Mack") Phillips suffered horrific abuse as a child at the hands of his drunken father. As an adult he has a bountiful life with his wife, Nan, and their three children, Kate, Josh and Missy. Mack's life is shattered, however, when their youngest child Missy disappears during a camping trip while he is saving Kate and Josh during a canoeing accident.

The police determine Missy is the victim of a serial killer after finding her torn dress and blood in a vacant cabin. The tragedy derails Mack's faith and life until he receives a mysterious telegram signed "Papa" (which is Nan's name for God) inviting him to come to the cabin. Reluctantly accepting, Mack travels there and is overcome with rage and suicidal thoughts, until he meets a mysterious trio of strangers who seek to help him understand, heal and forgive.
